Lots of topics today. Cut for your convenience.
Won the $5 buy in poker table last night. Oh yes, we are playing poker. A lot. And I'm okay at it, I guess. It really is half luck, half skill. Still working on that skill part.
I applied for graduation today. Oh, dear Lord God Almighty. That's pretty much the only thing I can say about that.
Grad school applications are barely together. I have my 25 page portfolio stocked with Finding Shakespeare, The Skinny and The Good Life. They are most certainly my strongest pieces and have garnered the most praise. I am confident in them, but the sad part of it all is that I'm going to produce my best work (presumably!) this year in my senior writing project. So hopefully my best work of junior year is good enough to get me into an MFA program with a fellowship.
Peace Corps application is nearly done. I have to write one more short essay on a meaningful cross-cultural experience. I know what I want to write about, it's just a matter of getting it done.
My friend who graduated last year joined a full time volunteer program with the Methodist Church that focuses on social justice. The way she talks about her job and day-to-day makes me desperately want to apply! I would have a choice of doing a 2 year stint within the US or making a 3 year commitment to 2 years abroad and 1 domestically. The only problem is that I would be considered a "missionary" even though I wouldn't be directly converting people. Blah blah blah Great Commission blah blah. I believe in living by example, which I think is much harder than going up to a random person and saying "Do you have a relationship with Jesus Christ?" Besides, I'm more of a Christian Universalist than anything else. Who am I to say any other path is better than mine? I love Jesus/God/The Holy Spirit. If my God can be Three-In-One, why can't the God in another religion be the same? Anyway...lecture over.
As editor of KATE (Otterbein's feminist 'zine), I need to come up with a theme for our issue. I'm thinking of Feminism 101, since there seems to be much confusion on what feminism is and why it's still necessary.
And now, I'm starving, darlings.
